Pharmacists’ Gateway Canada

Pharmacists’ Gateway Canada (Gateway) provides licensing information, a diagnostic tool and learning modules, and a centralized document repository for international pharmacy graduates (IPGs).

The Gateway helps to explain the licensure process to IPGs who want to be licensed to practise pharmacy in Canada. It will guide IPGs through each of the steps in the process and help them to identify what requirements they can complete before they arrive in Canada.

The program offers tools to help identify specific gaps in knowledge and experience, and offers opportunities to further develop knowledge and skills in three areas of knowledge that are relevant to Canadian pharmacy practice:

  • Knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system;
  • Cultural diversity and awareness; and
  • Professional communication.

    NAPRA Diagnostic Tool and Learning Modules (formerly P4T)

    The Pilot Program to Prepare for Practical Training (P4T) was a national short-term pilot project (2019-2022) that aimed to provide access to tools, resources, and a mentorship program to specifically address the learning and skills gaps that had been identified as barriers to success for international pharmacy graduates pursuing licensure as a pharmacist in Canada. The project had three main components which supported a smoother entry to pharmacy practice in Canada: a diagnostic tool, three learning modules and a mentorship program.

    Program Closure

    The P4T project, which was funded by the federal government of Canada, ended on December 31, 2022. NAPRA wishes to recognize all who participated in the project and contributed to its success. This includes the P4T Steering Committee Members, the subject matter experts who reviewed the programs, the vendors who supported the project, the project partners who provided assistance in various forms, and the mentors who dedicated their time, energy and expertise to support mentees on their path to licensure. Most of all, NAPRA would like to thank the Government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program for its support and funding throughout the project’s lifecycle.

    Next Steps

    While the mentorship program administered as part of P4T did not continue, NAPRA is pleased to announce that the diagnostic tool and all three learning modules (DTLM) remain available for a single fee of $95.00, plus applicable taxes. There are no conditions to access the DTLM. Pharmacists, international pharmacy graduates and pharmacy students alike will find information relevant to their pharmacy practice in Canada in the DTLM and are encouraged to participate in this learning program.
